100 Years Ago – June 8, 1921
School newspaper — “The Archurus,” the paper published annually by the students of Caribou High School, will be issued next week. It will contain many well written articles by students. Every family in town should have a copy for references.
House lots — A.E. Warren has purchased three lots on Vaughn Street of Murray Briggs. Mr. Warren plans on erecting three new homes on the lots.
75 Years Ago – June 5, 1946
Athletic awards — Phyliss Pendleton and Gloria Mockler, both of Caribou, and Shirley Anderson and Elise Sjostedt, both of Stockholm, were among 88 women who recently received athletic awards at the annual banquet of UM Women’s Athletic Association.
Potato Queen — The Caribou Chamber of Commerce recently selected a committee to choose Caribou’s Potato Queen in Houlton during the Potato Blossom Festival.
50 Years Ago – June 8, 1971
Spudland Open — Prize money totalling $4,000 and the biggest turnout ever are being forecast for this year’s Spudland Open golf tournament, scheduled for July 29th.
Town anniversary parade — Gordon Dixon, chairman of the town’s 90th anniversary observance, announced that Retired Brigadier General Carl Sodertorm, and Retired Commander Gordon Anderson USN, both natives of Stockholm, will be the parade’s co-marshalls.
25 Years Ago – Jun. 5, 1996
New town manager — Gene Conlogue, current Washburn town manager, was appointed Fort Fairfield’s new town manager Monday night. Conologue, who has served for the past four and a half years as Washburn’s town manager, will assume his new role July 1.
Grant assurance arrives at MSSM — At the future Maine School of Mathematics dormitory Thursday, a federal official delivered paperwork on a $1 million grant to the school. Sanford Blitz, representative for the Economic Development Administration, presented Limestone Town Manager Troy Brown with documents assuring the arrival of the grant money.
