HODGDON, Maine — The weather was hot on Tuesday, June 8, and so was the Hodgdon batting, as the Hawks handily defeated visiting Fort Fairfield by a score of 10-0 in the two teams’ playoff matchup.
Hodgdon’s pitching stymied the Fort Fairfield offense, striking out eight batters in total. Starting pitcher Silas Graham led the way for the Hawks, leaving the opposing team with only one hit throughout his outing.
Scoring for the Hawks was done early on in the game, as Hodgdon scored five runs in the first inning of the game, before tacking on an additional run in the second. They would then add another run in the third, followed by three more in the fourth for a total of 10 in the game.
The offense for the Hawks was led by Elijah Matheson, who hit two singles in the first two innings, and Oisin Gardiner, who had a double and scored two runs for Hodgdon.
For Fort Fairfield, catcher Kobe West managed the lone hit for the Tigers, doing so in the second inning.
Several other players managed to reach bases through walks and being hit by the pitch, though none of them managed to score a run. Pitcher and leadoff hitter Chase Coiley came the closest, managing to get the third following three consecutive walks in the fifth inning, but failed to score following a fly ball out and strikeout.
