BANGOR, Maine — Robert “Charlie” Poliero, 57, of Presque Isle pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court Wednesday, July 21, to charges of possession, distribution and conspiring to distribute methamphetamine, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Donald E. Clark.
Between approximately July 2018 and May 2019, Poliero and others conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to court records. Poliero traveled to Georgia at least twice to obtain methamphetamine, and he and his co-conspirators distributed them in Aroostook County, according to court records.
On Poliero’s return trips from Georgia with another person on May 19, 2019, Maine State Police stopped his vehicle and found approximately 6,100 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine, Clark said.
Poliero faces between 10 years and life in prison and a fine of up to $10 million on each charge, plus between five years and a lifetime of supervised release on each. He will be sentenced by a federal judge after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Maine State Police investigated the case, with the assistance of multiple state and local law enforcement agencies.
This prosecution is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces investigation.
