CARIBOU, Maine — During their annual meeting on Wednesday, June 30, the Rotary Club of Caribou presented their Service Above Self Award to Robert Sprague and Curtis Richards.
Sprague first joined the Caribou Rotary Club as an honorary member, having been recognized for years of giving selflessly to the Nordic Ski program at Caribou High School. In addition to being the team’s coach for many years, he assisted in the development of on-campus ski trails, the construction of a Ski Center and later an expansion to the building that included additional restrooms and a commercial kitchen.
As a Rotarian, he was an enthusiastic member, serving as club secretary, chairing the Rotary Youth Exchange Program and coordinating volunteers for the Caribou Soup Kitchen.
Richards has volunteered for over 16 years, grooming and maintaining the ski and snow shoe trails at the Caribou High School. He also has served as head coach for the Caribou Community School ski team and assistant coach for the high school ski team when needed, along with serving as president of the Northern Skiers Club.
The award recipients received an 1893 print of the City of Caribou. Also, the Club will contribute $1,000 to each of Sprague’s and Richards’ charity of choice.

During this meeting, the club celebrated the passing of the president’s gavel from outgoing president, Mark Draper, to incoming president, Hugh Kirkpatrick.
