115 Years Ago – July 31, 1906
Joins clothing store –Miss Margaret Black is now a clerk in the Combination Clothing Company’s store.
Train excursion – – The Bangor and Aroostook sold excursion tickets to the Littleton Campgrounds, which is several miles north of Houlton.
100 Years Ago – Aug. 4, 1921
New garage — E.J. Albair started to work in the former Denton Shop, which he purchased with his brother, Roy.
Coming home — Roy Albair, one of our own boys who was awarded a medal in the World War, was expected to arrive home to take charge of the garage which he purchased with his brother.
75 Years Ago – July 31, 1946
New plant to open — An informal opening was to be held at the Bird’s Eye plant on Thursday. The opening was announced early this week by officials at the plant. Growers, business associates and other friends are cordially invited to visit the operation between the hours of one and five.
Auto parts store remodels mill — The Aroostook Auto Parts Company, formerly on Record Street, recently remodeled the building that was one time occupied by the Cox Grist Mill on Main Street. The new store will open Saturday carrying a lot more stock because of the extra space. The store carries parts, tools and other auto accessories and has three trucks covering the County in his wholesale business.
50 Years Ago – Aug. 4, 1971
Assigned to the County Committee — Bert Turner, Washburn potato grower, has been appointed to serve on the Central Aroostook County Committee for Farmers Home Administration for a three-year period which began in July. He replaces Arthur Holdsworth, whose appointment expired in June. This committee serves the Caribou area.
Contract to Local Firm — A contract to install a $130,000 water system in Caribou Industrial Park (Grimes Mills Site) which will supply industries there and also meet the New England and Mutual Fire Insurance Underwriters awarded to Brescia Construction by the Caribou Development Corporation.
25 Years Ago – July 31, 1996
Here to Help — Students at the Aroostook County Action Program-sponsored Summer Broccoli School have been awarded a grant for $1,000, which they will in turn pass along to a worthwhile cause within the Caribou community. A panel of four student judges will work with school administrators to determine the winner. Receiving the awards were Delda Avila, Karina Gutierez, Manuel Trejo and Roger Perez.
