PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A Presque Isle man has been charged with aggravated reckless conduct and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon after firing off a loaded AR rifle in a residential area early Sunday morning.
Police were called to Dupont Drive in Presque Isle on the morning of Aug. 8 to a report of someone with a loaded assault rifle in the area. The suspect was later identified as Mason Langille, 18, of Presque Isle.
Megan Shea, who was sleeping in a nearby residential house when the shooting occurred, recalled jumping out of bed after hearing the noises, not sure if the sounds were firecrackers or shots being fired. After Langille circled back around the neighborhood in his truck and began firing again, she realized what was happening.
“It was the scariest moment of my life,” Shea said. “He hit two of our neighbors’ houses and our vehicle. We have four bullet holes in our front lawn and one went through our vehicle, through a table and then into our garage.” She said that Langille appeared to be firing off shots randomly.
Police remained on the scene for most of the day trying to find the rifle, believing Langille had hidden the gun somewhere in nearby bushes.
In addition to Dupont Drive, police also warned residents on the nearby streets of Harvest Lane and Mantle Lake Park to be on the lookout for the gun. The rifle was located and handed over to police, although authorities did not say how that came about.
The Presque Isle Police Department confirmed that no one was injured as a result of the shooting.
