100 Years Ago – Aug. 10, 1921
Motor vehicle laws on passing — There are many automobilists who are not yet aware of the new motor vehicle laws which became effective this month. No operator shall pass a moving vehicle from the rear at the top of a hill or on a curve when the view ahead is in any way obscured or while a vehicle is crossing an intersection.
Home goes electric — Mr. H. Keith had his home wired for electric lights last week. Mr. Alf Anderson has wired for Alf Pierson, Olaf Anderson and Mr. Youngren at the B.& A. station.
75 Years Ago – Aug. 7, 1946
Food processor opens in Caribou — The eastern division of the Birds Eye Snider Company opened a new packing plant in Caribou this week.
Five to study teaching — Five ladies from surrounding towns applied to the Aroostook State Normal School to pursue the teaching profession. At the time, schools in Northern Maine were suffering from shortage of teachers.
50 Years Ago – Aug. 10, 1971
Hospital to see new addition — A new addition is rapidly taking shape at Cary Memorial and is part of the medical family’s efforts to improve health care services for the area. The wing will house physical therapy and laboratory facilities. It will cost $80,000 for the construction. Cary Memorial Hospital was established in 1924.
Water Works expects November completion — A quarter-million-dollar effort to produce more and better water in Caribou is proceeding beyond expectations by Caribou Water Works Corp. President John R. Murray is hopeful for a November completion date. The installation of new equipment is expected to increase the present pumping capacity of the company plant from the present one million gallons per day to two and a half million gallons.

Don’t drop it! — Participants in Thursday’s Crazy Olympics at Teague Park in Caribou competed in a relay event calling for team members to carry a potato on a spoon a certain distance and back without dropping it. More than 100 boys and girls attended several activities put on by the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department.
Children wanted for parade — The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting children from the greater Caribou area who have received bicycle helmets from the Caribou Rotary Club Project to ride their bicycles in the Caribou Cares About Kids Parade on Thursday, Aug. 15.
