PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Soccer balls will once again be flying as the Presque Isle Elks Lodge No. 1954 hosts its annual Soccer Shoot kicking contest.
Slated for Sunday, Sept. 19, the event returns after a one-year hiatus because of COVID-19. This year’s event kicks off at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, behind Gentile Hall.
Soccer Shoot Director Kevin Sjoberg announced that this popular fall event will be reinstated after a one-year break. In doing so, Sjoberg declared that,
“The Elks Soccer Shoot contest shall again, as always, be absolutely free of charge to all,” said Soccer Shoot Director Kevin Sjoberg. “Parents, grandparents and friends of the competitors are encouraged to attend this exciting youth event.”
The contest will be open to all area youth under 14 years of age. Registration begins at 10 a.m., with the kicks beginning at 11 a.m. There are four age categories for the Soccer Shoot — under age 8; ages 8 and 9; ages 10 and 11; and ages 12 and 13.
There are separate divisions for boys and girls.
The eight winners from the Presque Isle event are eligible to compete in the Maine Elks Northern District Soccer Shoot contest to be held in Bangor on Sunday, Oct. 3.
Grilled hot dogs, drinks, and chips will be served by the Elks to all contestants and spectators, free of charge. For further information, parents and contestants may call the Presque Isle Elks Lodge, 207-764-0985, or Sjoberg at 207-554-0029.
