HOULTON, Maine — A Houlton woman was arrested Tuesday after trying to outspeed Maine State Police officers in a chase along Route 1 in southern Aroostook County.
Jennifer Rice, 39, of Houlton had been driving at speeds approaching 100 miles per hour along Route 1 in Monticello at around 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to state police. When a trooper attempted to stop her, Rice allegedly refused to pull over and continued to speed along Route 1 and then turned onto Route 1A in Mars Hill.
Rice was finally slowed down when Lt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police intercepted her in Easton and was able to get his vehicle in front of hers, forcing her to slow down. Rice finally pulled into a driveway and stopped her vehicle, where she was then arrested without any further resistance, police said.
Rice is charged with eluding an officer, criminal speeding, driving to endanger and failure to stop. She was transported to Aroostook County Jail in Houlton following her arrest. Her bail has been set at $1,000, and she remained in the jail late Tuesday afternoon.
The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department, Maine Warden’s Service, Presque Isle Police Department and Presque Isle Fire and Ambulance acted as assisting agencies during the incident.
