HODGDON, Maine — The Aroostook Riding Club, along with friends and family, held the annual Sara Wotton Memorial Horse Show at the Hodgdon arena Sept. 19.
Before the show started, the national anthem was played as 13 riderless horses were led in with American flags draped over their saddles in tribute to the 13 American soldiers killed in Afghanistan.
As the horses were lined up in the middle of the ring, Carson Williams rode his horse around the arena carrying the flag — also known as posting the colors.
After the ceremony, there were several classes for horses and riders of all ages from lead line to adult.
“The event was held in memory of fellow horsewoman Sara Wotton who lost her battle to cancer a few years ago,” said Heather Campbell, one of the event organizers. “Her love for horses lives on through her family and friends and fellow horsemen.”
