HOULTON, Maine — When he first started delivering oil for Daigle Oil Company, David Frazier never dreamed he would spend the next three-plus decades with the same company.
But that is precisely what this Island Falls resident did.
Now after 35 years with the same company, Frazier, 67, has decided to retire. His final day with DOC was Thursday, Sept. 30. Instead of a traditional cake for his last day, Frazier was treated to one of his favorites — chicken wings later that evening.
Starting out as a fuel truck driver in Presque Isle, he eventually earned his master’s license in the home heating industry. At the time he and his wife, Ruth, resided in Westfield.
Frazier became division manager in Houlton in December 1994 and relocated his family to the Island Falls area. Though both he and his wife were uncertain about the move at first, they quickly came to love the area. Ruth Frazier has served as the Island Falls recreation director for many years.
Making the adjustment to retired life will be a challenge, Frazier admitted.
“The time was right,” he said. “I have a to-do list at home that could go on forever and I will probably end up getting a part-time job, because that’s just how I am. Today, when I woke up, I realized this was the last day I would have to turn the alarm clock on in the morning.”
Frazier said he will miss the customer and staff interactions the most.
“Every place I have worked in The County, I have met awesome people,” he said. “It has been an honor for me to help people with their heating and cooling needs.”
Frazier said he was confident he was leaving his position in good hands, and added he was only a phone call away should the company have any questions.
“Dave has been an incredible asset to Daigle Oil Company over his 35-year career,” said Levi Prosser, new division manager for DOC. “We have been fortunate to have such a dedicated and knowledgeable leader. Daigle Oil wishes Dave all the best as he begins his retirement and I’d like to thank him for being a great mentor and now a friend.”
