115 Years Ago – Oct. 9, 1906
Abundant harvest — Potato digging in Washburn was drawing to a close and the crop in that vicinity was a large one, yielding 150 barrels per acre.
Convention – – About 35 teachers and others who were interested in educational work were in Caribou attending the Teachers Convention being held there.
100 Years Ago -Oct. 13, 1921
New school telephone — A telephone has now been installed at the Sincock School House. It is the first of many being installed locally.
Successful farmer — Howard Nichols of Limestone is one of the largest farmers in Limestone, having 104 acres planted of potatoes this year. On one day alone he dug over 900 barrels of potatoes.
75 Years Ago – Oct. 9, 1946
Hunting trip — Norman Currier and Harry Barnes have been spending a few days hunting at Fish River, returned home Friday. Mr. Currier shot a fine buck, several birds and Mr. Barnes secured a fine fox.
Buying trip — Ray Brown left Monday afternoon for a few days to visit the New York markets, where he will purchase his mid-winter stock of dry and fancy goods.
25 Years Ago – Oct. 9, 1996
Contest proceeds for MS — The Great Pumpkin Giveaway is a new way to help people with MS, and it’s happening in Caribou. For one dollar, the public can submit a guess on the weight of the Great Pumpkin located at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center, with the proceeds going to the Maine Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Newest member — The Caribou Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed a new member in DoDo’s Market on Route 89. The Levesque family of Madawaska are the proud owners of the long standing local business. Willard and Arline Levesque brought in Citgo gasoline products soon after buying the business.
