To the editor:
Yesterday we enjoyed being in Houlton’s Riverside Park on a delightful autumn day. Sitting in our lawn chairs beside the gently flowing Meduxnekeag River (on traditional Maliseet territory) was peaceful and uplifting for us, who are in our late 80s.
A younger jogger was running up the trail to the HIghland Avenue bridge, a family with several children was enjoying a picnic at one of the tables, and a new dad was showing his baby the green grass, rocks and trees — a special place for all ages.
We are very grateful for the park and the Gateway Crossing Bridge. Thank you to those who made it possible and to those who maintain it.
