115 Years Ago – Oct. 23, 1906
Trip to market — B.O. Noyes returned Tuesday afternoon from his trip to Boston, where he purchased a large stock of jewelry and silverware for his store.
Car shortage – – The car shortage has eased up to some extent, but shippers are still handicapped by not having enough cars to ship them. Irving and Ricker Co. and E.J. Briggs have taken flat cars and made temporary coverings for them to use until the weather gets cold enough to ship.
100 Years Ago – Oct. 27, 1921
New church — Workmen commenced Monday morning to dig out the cellar and lay the foundation for a new church for the Pentecostal Society which will be on the corner of Summer & Sweden Streets.
Spectacular spuds — W.S. Ford displayed to the editor recently three potatoes taken from the field that weighed 9lbs each.
75 Years Ago – Oct. 23, 1946
Caribou man heads Aroostook Grange — Alfred Thomas of Caribou was elected Master of the Aroostook Pomona Grange for the ensuing term at the meeting Saturday.
New Owners — Mr. Laurel Levin and Elwin Nelson are doing business at the garage they bought recently at New Sweden Station. Martin Akerson, the former owner, is operating a new garage near Colby.
25 Years Ago – Oct. 23, 1996
Check Presented — Paul Powers, president of the Caribou Rotary Club, presented a check for $3,500 to the Caribou Snowmobile Club President John Powers. The monies were raised during a sled raffle last winter, and will be used for trail maintenance for the 1996-97 season.
BMW to join the UK trade mission — BMW Manufacturing of Caribou is among five Maine businesses awarded a $1,500 grant to participate in a trade mission to the United Kingdom. Funded by Fleet Bank of Maine and awarded by the Maine Chamber and Business Alliance. The winner’s grants will cover half of the estimated expense of the trip scheduled for Nov. 10.
