PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — On Wednesday, October 6, the Presque Isle Middle School girls’ cross country team won the Aroostook League Championship that took place at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Maggie Bell of Caribou was the Aroostook League girls champion and finished the 2-mile course with a time of 13:59. Tori Ervin was Greater Houlton Christian Academy’s top finisher in second place with a time of 14:48. Presque Isle’s top finisher in third place was Taylor York with a time of 15:04. Following in fourth place was Presque Isle’s Aleah Rideout, 15:21, fifth place was Charli Casavant of Presque Isle with a time of 15:30, and Lydia Bragdon of Presque Isle came in sixth place with a time of 15:36.29.
Rounding out the top ten were Brooklyn Philbrook, GHCS, 15:36.96, Lydia Han, GHCS 15:53, Taylor St. Peter of Woodland, 16:00, and Julia Daggett, Presque Isle, finishing at 16:12.
Presque Isle placed second in four out of their six meets and won two. In the first meet Presque Isle placed second with a gap of 13 points. At the second meet, the gap closed to 12 points, and in the third meet they were 13 points out of first place.
In the fourth meet the gap went back to 12 points. Presque Isle won the fifth meet, and capped off the season with winning the league championship.
Overall standings were Presque Isle in first place with a score of 21 followed by Woodland Consolidated School, 57 points, and Caribou Middle School, 59 points. GHCA, Easton and Fort Kent had non-scoring teams.
On the boys’ side, Valley Rivers Middle School’s Alden Reardon was the league champion, finishing the course in 12:11. The top 10 finishers included Reardon, Caribou’s Tewolde Stewart with a time of 12:35 in second place, and GHCA’s Jack Philbrook was third with a time of 12:59. Logan Wing was Presque Isle’s top boys’ finisher in fourth place with a time of 13:17. He was followed by Scott Stubbs and Seth Dubay, both of Caribou, with times of 13:32 and 13:34, respectively. Rounding out the top ten were Daniel Henderson, 13:45, Brayden Drake, 14:02, Isaac Watson, 14:21, and Malachi Witmer, 14:23, all of GHCA.
Overall standings were GHCA, Aroostook League Champions, 32 points, Caribou Community School finished in second place with 44 points, followed by Presque Isle Middle School in third place with 49 points. Valley Rivers Middle School and Woodland Consolidated School both had non-scoring teams.
