FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Fort Fairfield Town Council approved the appointment of a new school board member at its monthly meeting on Wednesday.
The council approved the appointment of Wendy Ross to the SAD 20 School Board, at the recommendation of Superintendent Tim Doak. According to the district’s vacant seat policy, “Should a vacancy be declared in accordance with this policy, the vacancy shall be filled by the Fort Fairfield Town Council or by an election called for that purpose.”
Her appointment passed unanimously.
The council had several announcements during the meeting, the first of which being that Fort Fairfield is in line with its budget, according to Town Manager Andrea Powers.
The multi-purpose building for the Recreation Department is back on track for construction. This is in large part due to the efforts of businesses like Precision Custom Woodwork, Greenlaw Electric, Aroostook Trusses, Huber Engineered Woods, and A&M Construction.
The council also announced that the Library roofing project had been completed, and moved leftover funds back into reserve accounts.
The Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce gave the council an update on the work they have done with the town and the county over the last year, including the barbeque for the Maine Potato Blossom Festival, and beginning a business ambassador program, to help businesses connect in the area.
The council also approved an anonymous $200 donation to the Recreation department for a new radio.
The street light project has also been completed, and leftover funds have been moved back into the reserve accounts.
The council then swore in Neadra Dubois as the interim clerk for the town.
The council then entered executive session to discuss personnel matters, and adjourned shortly thereafter.
