100 Years Ago – Nov. 10, 1921
Three-string high — Pete Rogers captured the weekly prize offered at Golden’s Alleys for the highest three string total, toppling 353 pins.
Movies for a quarter — The Dream Theater has announced that, beginning next week, the adult admission price will be reduced from 30 cents to 25 cents except on Saturdays.
75 Years Ago – Nov. 7, 1946
Youngest pilot — Robbie Beatham is the youngest student now taking flying lessons at the Houlton Air Base and is believed to be the youngest in Maine. He started lessons at 14 and can get his license at 16.
Camp visit — The Houlton Trust employees, board of directors and their wives were guests Wednesday at Oscar Been’s camp at Grand Lake. Fun was had by all.
50 Years Ago – Nov. 10, 1971
Observe fire safety devices — Eugene Ross, a member of the Houlton Fire Department, demonstrated the fire equipment and parts of the fire truck during the fire safety program held Nov. 3-4 for local Cub Scouts. Richard O’Leary stated that the program will give the boys a better understanding of fire safety and the work of the fire department.
Sears grant — Mr. Robert Dohms of Presque Isle, presented a check to Dr. Robert Matson, President of Ricker College, as a gift to the college from the Sears Roebuck Foundation. Ricker was one of 12 colleges in Maine to receive a gift.
25 Years Ago – Nov. 7, 1996
Exceptional educators — Science teachers from Houlton and Hodgdon were recently recognized by other Maine educators for their effort with Project Ocean Studies. The teachers are Martha Fasulo, Tim Humphrey, Arlene Edgar, Joe Feeney and Oden Cassidy.
Agents hand out Halloween treats — The Insurance Association of Greater Houlton was formed in 1992, consisting of men and women working in the insurance industry. Today, there are over 200 members throughout the eight associations in the State of Maine. They held their first ever convention in Houlton in October. Members passed out Halloween Safety Tips and Treat Bags to all the local elementary schools.
