BANGOR, Maine — The Houlton-Hodgdon Southern Aroostook Blackhawks competed in the John Bapst Holiday Classic preseason hockey tournament over Thanksgiving weekend, winning one of three games.
The preseason games featured two halves with 22 minutes, 30 seconds running time for each half.
Joining the Blackhawks were teams from Camden Hills, Bangor, Thornton Academy and two squads from John Bapst.
Houlton lost to Camden Hills, 5-1; fell to John Bapst A, 7-0; and beat John Bapst B, 4-0.
“The complete level and overall effort and energy from the Houlton players was very evident throughout the preseason hockey games,” new head coach Karl Enroth said. “We will have to work on our team execution and consistency in all three zones, and our awareness away from the puck in terms of reading and reacting will have to continue to improve”
Goalie Dawson Cole’s play was solid throughout all the preseason games and coach Enroth added it was nice to see him log a shutout in the final preseason game.
There was a skills competition in which Houlton players forwards Alex Dunn, Caydon Campbell, Josh McGullicuddy; defensemen John Cummings and Riley Fitzpatrick, and goalie Cole participated.
