FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Fort Fairfield school district has decided to switch to remote learning for the next week.
“Due to the inability to provide adequate coverage for the absences of essential employees and the number of confirmed positive COVID cases within the MSAD No. 20 district’s schools, all Fort Fairfield schools will be in a remote learning model for Friday, December 3, 2021 through Friday, December 10, 2021,” said SAD 20 Superintendent Tim Doak in a letter sent home to parents.
As of 3:20 p.m. on Dec. 3, the Fort Fairfield school district had a total of 12 active COVID-19 cases, with five at the elementary school, and seven at the middle/high school. Currently, there are 72 people in close contact quarantine, with 23 from the elementary school, and 49 from the middle/high school.
Doak said that this shift was for the safety of both students and faculty alike, and that keeping everyone safe is the school’s first priority.
This shift to remote learning will be very similar to the November shift. Elementary school students will be able to pick up learning packets on Friday from noon to 3 p.m., if they were not sent home Thursday. Middle/high school students will attend classes online, with work being posted on Google Classroom.
Elementary school students who need laptop access can request it until the end of day Friday. Then, laptops will be available for pickup from 9 a.m. until the end of school day on Monday, Dec. 6.
All Fort Fairfield schools are set to return to in-person learning on Monday, Dec. 13. Additional information can be found on the Fort Fairfield school website.
