HOULTON, Maine — The Elks Hoop Shoot is bouncing back. This season marks a return to normal contests and the national program’s 50th anniversary.
The Elks Hoop Shoot is celebrating 50 years of encouraging children to set a goal that pushes them to their limits through practice, persistence and grit during their formative years.
The Elks Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest open to all boys and girls, ages 8 to 13. Contestants will be assigned an age-group based on the age that they will be on April 1, 2022. The program is free for all contestants and provides youth an opportunity to compete, connect and succeed through hard work and healthy competition.
This year’s Houlton Elks Hoop Shoot will be held Sunday, Dec. 12 at the Houlton Recreation Department. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with the competition beginning at noon.
Due to COVID-19, some guidelines are in place. Everyone must wear a mask, but it may be taken off when shooting. Rebounders and line judges will sanitize hands after each contestant and participants are allowed to bring their own regulation size basketballs to participate.
