PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Senior Courtney Kane scored six first-quarter points as the Wildcats took an early lead and never lost it in a 61-33 victory over John Bapst Saturday at the Presque Isle High School Gymnasium.
Kane finished with seven points and seven rebounds, while junior Mia Casavant provided the Wildcats a lift off the bench with 10 points and seven boards. Senior Faith Sjoberg (15 points) and junior Anna Jandreau (12) were also in double figures in scoring and combined for five 3-point field goals. Sophomore guard Jorja Maynard netted seven points for the 1-1 Wildcats.
“After our opening loss, we wanted to focus on doing the little things and playing Presque Isle basketball, win or lose,” said PI coach Jeff Hudson. “We got off to an excellent start with Courtney scoring on some offensive rebounds.
“It was nice to see Faith and Anna score, but it was also great to have some of the others chip in and contribute to the win,” he added.
Claire Gaetani totaled 11 points and Kaylee Horr chipped in with 10 for John Bapst, whose record fell to 0-3.
At Mackenzie Gymnasium in Old Town on Dec. 14, Presque Isle opened its regular season schedule with a 48-25 loss to the Coyotes.
The hosts bolted to a 34-10 lead at halftime and were never threatened. Saige Evans poured in a game-high 27 points for the Coyotes, while Madelyn Emerson tallied 11. Old Town holds a 3-0 record and are currently in first place in the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point standings for Class B North.
The Wildcats were led by Sjoberg and Jandreau, who scored nine and eight points, respectively.
