PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Six local youth have advanced in the Elks Hoop Shoot foul shooting competition after winning the Presque Isle Elks Lodge No. 1954 competition held Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022 at Presque Isle High School.
Girls and boys competed in the 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 year-old age divisions. Each had received an invitation to the lodge shoot after winning their preliminary contests held either at their school or recreation department. A total of 595 competitors participated in the preliminaries, representing the communities of Ashland, Caribou, Easton, Mapleton, Mars Hill, Presque Isle, Washburn and Woodland.
Those capturing trophies were as follows: 8-9 girls, first place, Selena Crouse, Mars Hill; runner-up, Azalea Pierce, Ashland; 10-11 girls, first place, Abigail Hopkins, Easton; runner-up: Sadie Trams, Ashland; 12-13 girls, first place, Carley Pickard, Caribou; runner-up: Lily McCrossin, Woodland.
Ages 8-9 boys, first place: Brody Woodworth, Mars Hill; runner-up: Davin Bua, Mapleton; 10-11 boys, first place: Hudson Porter, Presque Isle Middle School; runner-up: Jayden Michaud, Mapleton; 12-13 boys, first place: Kason Bua, Presque Isle Middle School; runner-up: Mason Pelletier, Easton.
The six youth placing first earned the opportunity to advance to the Northern District Hoop Shoot, set for Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022 at the James Doughty School in Bangor.
