There was little time off for the holidays for boys and girls basketball squads as teams stayed busy during the school break. The following games were reported to the newspaper.
Girls basketball
Fort Kent 44, Katahdin 35 — At Stacyville Jan. 1, Lily Oliver scored a game-high 16 points to pace the visiting Warriors (2-2), while Lilly Werntgen added 10 points. For Katahdin (3-3), Hunter Hartsgrove tossed in 15 points and Makayla Hartsgrove added 12 points.
Houlton 66, Belfast 34 — At Houlton Dec. 30, the Shires (3-0) were able to go to their bench often, building a 25-13 lead to end the first quarter. That lead grew to 42-21 by halftime and 59-27 after three quarters.
Mia Henderson led Houlton with 19 points, while Drew Warman and Gabby Gentle both added 11; Olivia Henderson chipped in eight; Amelia Callnan and Bre Barton both had five; and Kaitlyn Kenney and Emma Swallow each had three.
For Belfast (0-6), Madison Deans and Halle Tripp each had 11 points for the Lions.
Hodgdon 76, Fort Kent 37 — At Hodgdon Dec. 29, the Hawks improved to 7-0 on the season with a convincing win over Fort Kent (2-2). Aleyah Matheson led Hodgdon with 19 points, while Marissa Dow added 17; Anna Oliver and Sadie Thompson both had 14; Meghan Peters chipped in seven; and Vickie Porter added five.
For Fort Kent, Lily Oliver had 13 points, while Julia Cyr added 10.
Boys basketball

Houlton 75, Belfast 39 — At Houlton Dec. 30, the Shires scored early and often en route to a lopsided win over Belfast. Individual results were not reported.
Fort Kent 54, Hodgdon 48 — At Fort Kent Dec. 29, a 26-point effort from Warrior Austin Delisle carried Fort Kent (5-0) to a narrow victory over Hodgdon. Ethan Daigle chipped in 17 points in the victory.
For Hodgdon (6-2), Walker Oliver had 15 points, while Troy Hipsley added 14; Drew Duttweiler had nine; Caleb Nash, six; and Caleb Tuttle, four.
Hodgdon led 18-8 to end the first quarter, clung to a 26-21 lead at the halfway point and was on top 42-38 after three quarters before Fort Kent rallied for the win.
