In the City – Week of January 19, 2022

Do you love winter? Have a hankering to ride snowmobiles? Come on out for the first annual County Snow Fest.  This City-sponsored event will take place Friday, Jan. 28 through Sunday, Jan. 30.  There will be events for all ages, some of which are free.

The event kicks off Friday, Jan. 28 with a free, short presentation on Seasonal Affective Disorder at 4 p.m. at the Sargent Family Community Center.  Other Friday activities include a Chili/Stew Night, also at the Community Center, at 5 p.m. with live music and a cash bar.  Proceeds from the food benefits Presque Isle Historical Society.  Also, that evening, enjoy a Torch Ski at Big Rock at 6 p.m.; a Winter Art Exhibit featuring quilts by the Crown of Maine Quilters at Wintergreen Arts Center at 6 p.m.; or public skating at the Forum at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the day begins early for snowmobile enthusiasts with a Snowmobilers’ Breakfast at 7 a.m. followed by a Snowmobile Poker Run at 9 a.m. at the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club.  The Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library will be offering Winter Stories for Kids at 10 a.m. followed by Board Games at 11 a.m.  At noon, go fat mountain biking with Bike Board & Ski starting at the Community Center.  The afternoon will feature a vintage snowmobile show and parade and a bonfire with S’mores as well as a winter touch-a-truck.  In the evening, there will be a dinner/dance starting at 5 p.m. with a cash bar featuring live music by Common Crossing. Tickets are available at the Community Center or Craig Green’s New York Life Office. Cash or check only. Free public skating at the Forum begins at 7 p.m. And cap off the evening with a firework display at 8 p.m. Please note that Riverside Drive and the parking lot by the pavilion will be closed that evening due to the fireworks.

The final day of the event offers some unique and fun activities. At 10 a.m., there will be free, short snowmobile rides for the public at the Community Center. At noon, participants can go on a free guided winter bird watching or snowshoeing trek at Mantle Lake. For bird watchers, please meet in the parking lot and bring your binoculars if you have them. Remember to dress for the weather! There are a very limited number of snow shoes available to borrow, others may bring their own. At 1 p.m., join the revelry in the first ever snowblower races at the Riverside Boat Ramp (entrants should register at the Community Center) or go ice skating at the Forum. The final activity of the three-day event is a last chance to check out Victorian Christmas at the Estey located at 16 Third Street ($10 per person).

Please note that events are subject to change. For more details, please check out the events page under the What’s Happening Tab on the City’s website, or call 207-760-2722.
