115 Years Ago – Jan. 17, 1907
Class photo taken — The senior class of the Washburn High School were in Caribou Saturday, having a group picture taken at Geo. A. Wright’s photographic Studio.
Well attended — A good sized audience was present Saturday night in P. of H. opera house, the attraction being the Juanita Boynton Company, Miss Boynton’s reading being particularly well received and Pallas Brown exhibited wonderful ability on the violin.
100 Years Ago – Jan. 19, 1922
Harvesting ice for winter — H.A. Soucia commenced harvesting his summer’s supply of ice today. The ice is about twenty inches in thickness and of fine quality.
Purchased property for business — Caribou friends will be interested to know that W.W. Emery of Washburn has purchased the E.O. Woodman property on Main Street, Washburn, and has moved his family into the upstairs rent and will use one half of the ground floor space for a shoe store. The other half of the store will be occupied by W.F. Jordan, also a former Caribou resident, as a meat and grocery store.
75 Years Ago – Jan. 16, 1947
New company organized here — L.A. Hutchinson and L.A. Hutchinson Jr., are announcing the organization of the company L. A. Hutchinson and Son to operate the Caribou Steam Laundry and Hutchinson Florist. However, both of the two latter businesses will continue to operate under the same name.
Briggs Hardware plans to reopen — Briggs Hardware Co., one of the five Caribou businesses burned out in Monday’s fire, plans to reopen their store in about a month in the quarters now occupied by the Selective Service Office. They are also providing employment for their entire store crew at the present time.
25 Years Ago – Jan. 15, 1997
New mayor for Caribou — The coming of a new year brings a new mayor to Caribou. Last Monday, retired surveyor Lee Doody passed the office to insurance agent and fellow Councilor Dave Corriveau. Corriveau seems confident that whatever this year brings, Caribou will come out of it a changed place.
New Year’s party — Volunteer Theressa Canning entertained residents at the Maine Veterans Home during their recent New Year’s Eve party sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 2524 of Presque Isle.
