PORTLAND, Maine – Bishop Robert Deeley has appointed Fr. Anthony Korir, SMA as parochial vicar at Parish of the Precious Blood (Holy Rosary Church, Caribou; Sacred Heart Church, Caribou; Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Presque Isle; Our Lady of the Lake Church, Portage; St. Catherine Church, Washburn; St. Denis Church, Fort Fairfield; St. Joseph Church, Mars Hill; St. Louis Church, Limestone; St. Mark Church, Ashland; St. Theresa Church, Stockholm). The assignment is effective on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
A citizen of Kenya, Fr. Korir was ordained to the priesthood on July 15, 2006, at St. John Bosco Church in Kaptagat, part of the Diocese of Eldoret, Kenya. Since his ordination, Fr. Korir has served in the Diocese of Sokodé in Togo; as a director of vocations and administrator at St. Joseph Church in the Archdiocese of Nairobi, Kenya; at the development office of the American Province of SMA; and at the Church of St. Anne in Garwood, New Jersey, part of the Archdiocese of Newark.
The Society of African Missions is an international community of missionaries founded in France in 1856. The community includes priests, brothers, lay men, and lay women hailing from five continents. The American Province of SMA was established in 1941 and is headquartered in Tenafly, New Jersey.
