The Hoop Shoop consists of boys and girls ranging in ages from 8 to 13 participating in three different age groups. Each competitor completes two separate rounds, contestants each attempt a total of 25 foul shots.

The winner is determined to be the foul shooter in each age category and division with the greatest number of successful foul shots.  In the event of a tie, shoot-offs of five additional foul shot attempts by each of the tied competitors are held until a winner emerges.
