HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton/Greater Houlton Christian Academy cross country squad was honored last week with a presentation of championship jackets.
The girls squad made history last fall when it captured the Class C North Regional Championship for the first time in the program’s tenure. The Shires went on to place second in the state Class C competition.
The two schools combined to form a cooperative cross country team as neither school had sufficient numbers on their own. The success of that collaboration led the two schools to join forces for all sporting teams moving forward.
Bill Higgins of Hogan Tire presented the Shires with team jackets, which were purchased by the company.
“We are extremely honored to receive this generous donation from (Bill) Higgins and Hogan Tire,” Rines said. “It is very refreshing to know that businesses like Hogan Tire that are built by the hard work, dedication, and talent of their employees can recognize those same qualities in our team that drove us to success all season long. We are humbled by this gesture and are extremely grateful for the recognition.”
