HOULTON, Maine — Interest in filling a vacant position on the RSU 29 school board in Houlton appears to be nonexistent.
Timothy Youngfellow resigned from the school board earlier in March. He was elected to a three-year term on the board in November 2020.
The town of Houlton advertised the vacancy, but failed to receive a single letter or phone call of interest in the position, according to Houlton Town Manager Marian Anderson. The council was hoping to fill the position Monday evening at its regular meeting, but tabled the matter until its April 11 gathering in the hopes that someone will come forward.
The 13-member RSU 29 board meets the first Monday of every month. There are eight representatives from Houlton, two from Littleton, two from Monticello and one from Hammond on the board.
Whomever is selected to fill the seat will represent Houlton until the November elections. If the person wishes to continue, they would have to take out nomination papers and be elected to fill the remainder of the unexpired term.
Anyone from Houlton who is interested in the seat should contact the Houlton Town Office at 207-532-7111 or send a letter of interest to the town office at 21 Water St., Houlton, ME 04730.
