CARIBOU, Maine – The Caribou Recreation Department held its annual boys Northern Maine Caribou Recreation Association 5th and 6th Grade County Basketball Tournament on March 19.
Seven teams from across Aroostook County took part in the single elimination tournament which included Mars Hill, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Presque Isle, Van Buren, Washburn, and Caribou.
During the first round of games, Caribou defeated Van Buren, 26-20; Fort Fairfield beat Easton, 35-29; Presque Isle defeated Mars Hill, 51-12; and Washburn earned a first-round bye.
In the semifinals, Fort Fairfield clicked on all cylinders jumping out to a big lead early and went on to defeat Caribou, 45-11. Presque Isle defeated Washburn, 39-17.
In the Championship game, Presque Isle dominated Fort Fairfield 45-8 to claim the championship.
All seven players reached the scoring column for the Wildcats. Max Desmond led the scoring with 12 points, followed by Benjamin Waugh with 10; Isaac Gogain, nine; Charlie LaPlante, six; Jayden Michaud, four; and Kyle Connell and Jackson Greaves, both with two.
For Fort Fairfield, Ethan Kenneson scored six points and Jonah LaBlanc had two.
All-Tournament Team Selections were: Carter Irving of Caribou; Callum Cunningham of Washburn; Ethan Kenneson of Fort Fairfield; and Isacc Gogain and Max Desmond of Presque Isle.
