Improvements being made — E.F. Shaw, one of our enterprising and progressive farmers, has been making some decided improvements on his farm residence. He has raised his house up one story, putting on a hip-roof; he also put on an addition of ten feet, remodeling the interior and making it more convenient. He also intends to do considerable repairs to his barn soon. Mr. Shaw owns 170 acres besides being half owner in 140 acres adjoining.

Response to a letter — We wish the split-log drag could be used on our street and roads. We think it is the best way of improving ordinarily muddy and rutty roads that ever was thought of — that you get more real service and good roads for the money in that way than any other way ever invented, and we regret exceedingly that this drag was not used last year. We hope it may be seen on our roads this season — Review. We fully agree with the above, and are of the opinion that our road commission, W.A. Gray, also does, as he has already used one of the drag on the village streets, and other sections, greatly improving the roads.

Moved — Newcomb Baird has moved into the rent over the Caribou bakery, recently vacated by S. K. Stairs, who has moved into the Jerdell Ward house.

Man writes three books this winter — George Whitneck of Caribou has written this past winter three books which he has had bound and placed in the local library for the public to read and comment upon. All three books are fiction. A novel entitled “A Farmer Lives in Maine” is a story about Maine and Caribou itself. A Western story, “Sandy Get Your Gun,” is another title. The third book is a group of short stories bearing the title “A Young Cowhand.”

Music store sold — Bernard Music Store on High Street was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Philip Magill. The store, which was started over a year ago by Mrs. Rufus Bernard, has steadily grown and carried a large stock of musical instruments, sheet music, records, gifts and sporting goods. The new proprietors are well-known Caribou people and are extended good wishes of the public for their success.
