BANGOR, Maine — A Houlton man will spend 10 years in prison for distributing methamphetamine.
Derek Fitzpatrick, 31, was sentenced in federal court Monday on two counts of distributing methamphetamine, one for distributing 50 grams or more of the drug and a second count of possessing 500 grams or more of meth with the intention to distribute, according to U.S. Attorney Darcie N. McElwee.
U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker sentenced Fitzpatrick to 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release.
Fitzpatrick sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant on two occasions in August 2018, and in September 2018 sold more than 50 grams of methamphetamine to the informant, according to court records.
Police obtained warrants to search Fitzpatrick’s Houlton residence and Littleton garage on Sept. 28, 2018, seizing nearly 2,000 grams of methamphetamine from the home, court records said.
Local law enforcement worked with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency to investigate the case.
The investigation was part of an operation by Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces, a group that works to identify and dismantle criminal organizations that threaten the United States.
