GHCA announces top students for Class of 2022

HOULTON, Maine – Matthew Smith, head of school for Greater Houlton Christian Academy, has announced honor parts for the graduating Class of 2022.

 

Silas Graham is this year’s valedictorian, while Daniel Ross is salutatorian and Alyssa Nightingale is first honor essayist.

Graham, the son of Montie and Sarah Graham of Cary Plantation, is a  member of the National Honor Society and has earned numerous academic awards and Presidential Education Awards. He has also received recognition by ACSI as a Distinguished Christian High School Student in Academics.

 

Athletically, Graham has participated in one year of cross country; two years of varsity basketball; two years of volleyball; and four years of varsity baseball. His passion is baseball. He has played  American Legion Baseball on the Quirk Motor City junior and senior league teams. In 2021, the senior league team won the state championship. Graham also was the recipient of the 2022 Aroostook League Scholar Athlete award.

 

Graham is employed at Hannaford. When he’s not working, he enjoys baseball and fishing. His college plans are currently undecided. 

 

Ross, the son of Steven and Catherina Ross of Ludlow, is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. He is a 2022 Maine Principal’s Award recipient. He has received numerous awards, including Presidential Awards and was chosen for the ACSI Distinguished Christian  High School Student award for Academics, Athletics and Fine Arts.

Athletically, Ross has participated in cross country, track and field and volleyball. He received All Aroostook recognition in cross country and also received the President’s Outstanding Academic Achievement award.

 

Ross is active in his community by volunteering with food and clothing drives. He also assists  with middle school cross country activities. In his spare time Ross enjoys running, painting,  drawing, sculpting and cooking.  

 

He is currently employed at Walmart and WHOU. He will be attending LeTourneau University in Texas, where he will pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.

 

Nightingale, the daughter of Matthew and Heidi Nightingale of Houlton, has received numerous academic awards throughout her high school career; Christian Service Awards, and received recognition by ACSI as a  Distinguished Christian High School Student. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. 

 

Athletically, Nightingale has participated in five years of volleyball; two years of golf; and one year of softball. She is a two-year recipient of the PVC Academic Award in Golf and also received the honor of 2022 Aroostook League Scholar Athlete. 

 

Nightingale is actively involved in service at East Hodgdon Bible Church. In her spare time, she  enjoys time spent with her family, water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing and swimming at the lake  and helping out at Nightingale Farms. 

 

She also loves downhill skiing and enjoyed her work as a ski instructor at Big Rock Mountain this past ski season. Nightingale is currently employed at Houlton Farms Dairy. In the fall, she will attend Husson University, majoring in business.
