PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Two area artists will exhibit some of their works at Aroostook Agency on Aging during the month of June.

A month-long Artists for Aging exhibit opens Friday, June 3 in time for Presque Isle’s First Friday Art Walk with artists Kathleen Ledger Cassidy of Presque Isle and William Lloyd Duncan of Madawaska Lake.

The artists will be in the 260 Main Street gallery to discuss their work with community members from 5- 7 p.m. during the Art Walk. Otherwise, the public may see their work anytime during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Cassidy started working with stained glass when her children had graduated from high school. “I’ve  always been infatuated with stained glass, so when I saw an ad for an adult ed class, I took it. I was immediately hooked! I make sun catchers, jewelry, garden stones and window panels. I also do  mosaics, including frames,” she said.

After a couple of years Cassidy took advanced classes in Portland and learned how to fuse glass and uses those skills to create jewelry, plates, and bowls. “My love for the color and beauty in stained glass went  from a hobby, to a passion, to a business!,” she added.

Duncan has a master’s degree in fine art and put his creative talents to work at the University of Maine  at Presque Isle, first as a production assistant who specialized in photography and graphic design and  ultimately as director of the campus Publishing Center where he oversaw publications, design, and photography. He continued teaching art, computer graphics, video production and photography following his retirement.

Duncan, who now spends winters in Venice, Florida, is perhaps best known as a photographer and  painter with a focus on landscape and culture. His current interest is exploring art in the social context.  “As part of my art practice, I am involved with local Swedish and Scottish history and culture. I have  come to see art as communication,” he said.

Some samples of Duncan’s art can be found on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/wlduncan.

Those who take part in the Artists for Aging program, dedicate a percentage of all sales to support Agency programs and services. For more information on the month-long exhibit, please call the Agency at 207-764-3396/1-800-439-1789 or email to info@aroostookaging.org.
