HOULTON, Maine – The Gerard A. York Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017 to provide support for the children of employees of York’s of Houlton for their secondary education.
The scholarship applies to any full-time post-high school education including technical schools.
Since its inception, the scholarship has awarded 16 students a total of $62,750. This year each applicant will be awarded $2,000.
The following students received the award this year.
Randall Pryor Jr. is in his second year at Northern Maine Community College pursuing a degree in automotive collision repair. Last year he received his I-Car Certification and was on the Dean’s List.
Morgan Bailey is currently attending University of Maine Orono as a sociology major with a concentration in law, crime, and justice. She hopes to join the police academy after graduating and eventually become a detective.
Josiane Ford is a sophomore at University of Maine Orono. She is majoring in new media with a minor in computer interaction.
Paige Ford is a junior at University of New England in the nursing program. She will be at Houlton Regional Hospital this summer as a CNA and is starting her in-hospital clinicals this fall in Portland.
Catherine Putnam is a freshman at University of Maine Orono going for a bachelor’s degree in business.
Justin Hurlbert is a graduated senior at Katahdin High School, where he was salutatorian. He will be attending Northern Maine Community College this fall.
