CARIBOU, Maine – Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, will host a veterans town hall meeting in Caribou on Sunday, Aug. 14 to provide updates on efforts to support the Caribou Veterans Home, protect rural VA clinics and bolster benefits for veterans.
The veterans town hall begins at 5 p.m. and will take place at the Lister-Knowlton Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9389.
The event will provide Aroostook County veterans, their families, and interested parties the opportunity to hear from elected officials, ask questions and share their concerns as the Maine Veterans’ Homes stakeholder group is set to begin its work. The new law preventing the closure of the Caribou and Machias Veterans’ Homes, sponsored by Jackson, also established a stakeholder group to develop a plan to ensure the long-term viability of all six veterans’ homes across the state. The stakeholder group will hold its inaugural meeting at 4 p.m. on Aug. 17. A final report is due to the Legislature in February.
