At its Aug. 22 meeting, the Haystack Historical Society began planning two fall events to be held at the Haystack Historical Museum this fall.
The first and biggest event of the year is the annual baked ham dinner to be held on Sept. 17. The dinner is a longstanding tradition that has been enjoyed by many residents of Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill. This year folks will be able to dine in the museum or do a drive-thru.
The menu will be the traditional honey baked ham, fresh-made potato salad, baked beans, dessert squares and soft drinks or water. The cost will be $12 for adults and $5 for children under age 12. All funds raised will support the museum.

Earlier this month, friends and neighbors had a rollicking good time playing Bingo in the museum. When the afternoon ended, each one asked when the historical society would do another crazy fun bingo event. Well, the society decided Bingo Crazy would return to the museum Oct. 29, starting at 4 p.m.
Bingo will be free with many prizes given away. The society will raise funds by serving a chop suey dinner for $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Several new members joined the society at the last bingo session and they will be running the bingo games in the manner as the Mapleton Daze Bingo Game Evening. Everyone is invited to come, play bingo and eat great home cooking.
First day of school
All family members, students and school staff are invited to a special first day event at the school. Everyone will gather on the playground, then parade to the flagpole area for a brief ceremony to celebrate the new year This is a weather permitting event with no rain date. Families are encouraged to attend.
Fall Craft/Vendor Fair
The Mapleton Daze Committee’s popular Fall Craft/Vendor Fair will return from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 8 at Mapleton Elementary School.

Thanks from the Lions
The Mapleton Lions Club wishes to thank everyone who attended the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest last weekend. Despite some high winds and rain, the Balloon Fest was enjoyed by everyone who attended. The skies were filled with colorful balloons, the food at the fairgrounds was tasty, vendors were terrific, the music entertaining and the kids loved the bounce houses.

The Lions especially thank those who purchased their delicious food. The funds raised will be used to support the purchase of eyeglasses for children and individuals from low income families, upgrading of the Mapleton Recreation facilities, providing college scholarships, providing the Mapleton Lions Hall for the town recreation program, sponsoring the Mapleton Little League and providing for many other charity needs in the area, including providing financial support for the Quoggy Jo Ski Center.
