DYER BROOK, Maine — The fall sports season is now officially underway for squads in southern Aroostook County with a bundle of games on the schedule.
The Southern Aroostook boys and girls soccer teams hosted Central Aroostook of Mars Hill Thursday evening and found the visiting Panthers to be too much to handle as both Panther squads were victorious 4-0.
In the girls game, CAHS received goals from Allisa Burtt, Abby Haines, Katie Carvell and Harleigh Allen in the winning effort. Haines also logged an assist on the day. Panther goalie Kira Fitzherbert notched the shutout with 27 saves.
For Southern Aroostook, Libby Anderson had 13 saves on 17 shots.
“Both teams played hard until the last second,” SA coach Jessica Nye said. “Central Aroostook’s goalie did an amazing job. She managed to keep the SACS front line from being able to capitalize on their shots.
“For a younger team who lost the majority of their defensive line last year, SACS defense did an amazing job keeping (Central Aroostook) at 17 shots and only four goals,” she said.
Coach Nye noted that Warrior Jennah Brooks has taken on a new position this year as a center halfback and did an excellent job helping the defense and offense.
“She was everywhere she needed to be and managed to control the field with her senior leadership, communication and knowledge of the game,” the coach said.
Individual scoring for the boys game was not reported.
