PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — With Anna Jandreau returning for her senior season and a solid mix of experienced and young runners filling the remainder of the roster, fourth-year coach Mandy Graham said she is looking forward to this year’s Wildcat girls’ cross country season.
Jandreau has been Presque Isle’s No. 1 runner in each of the past three seasons and will lead the way again. She was the Aroostook League runner-up last year, placed third in the Penobscot Valley Conference championships and fourth in the Class B regionals before ending up 14th at the state championships.
“I am excited to see what her senior year will bring,” Graham said.
Presque Isle will miss Maddie Jackson, who graduated after being the team’s No. 2 runner behind Jandreau, but junior Julia Bartley is back along with sophomore Bailey Davenport. The Wildcats qualified as a team for the state meet in 2021.
Graham is welcoming six new runners, including sophomores Olivia Goodine, Brooklyn McIntyre and Liberty Herweh and freshmen Charlie Casavant, Brynna Fox and Emerson Miller.
“I’m excited to see how these new runners will develop over the course of the season and into future seasons,” Graham said.
The coach said it has been a solid preseason and is looking forward to the regular season to begin. The first meet will be held in Ellsworth Saturday, Sept. 3. The Wildcats will then host a meet at UMPI Sept. 10.
“The first two weeks of practice have gone great so far,” Graham said. “The girls are getting into the groove of practices and they continue to improve on particular skills and overall agility.”
