DYER BROOK, Maine — A new head coach for the Southern Aroostook boys soccer team is looking to bring a tradition of winning to the Warriors.
Ryan Pelletier takes the reins of the boys varsity squad this season, taking over for Austin White who guided the Warriors alongside his brother Alex for the past few years.
Pelletier said his hopes for the new season are simple — “to grow as individuals, teammates and members of the community, all while developing a life-long love for the game.”
The Warriors finished 1-12 in Class D North last season and did not participate in the playoffs. In 2021, Southern Aroostook partnered with Ashland to form a cooperative team since the Hornets did not have enough players to field a team.
Members of the SA roster are: seniors, Camden Porter, Andrew Chambers and Robert Robinson; juniors Connor Walker and Brennan Burpee; sophomores Trafton Russell and Ethan Collier; and freshmen Daniel Kuindersma, Richard Chambers, Bryce Bates, Will Maclaren and Kirby Hartin.
To accomplish success on the pitch, Pelletier said the group’s chemistry and attitude are the keys for success. Pelletier said the squad had yet to determine which positions the players would hold down on the field.
“The players come to practice everyday with the same mindset — being real with yourself in order to grow,” he said. “We are going to learn how to win and lose the right way.”
