FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — Fort Fairfield lost to Madawaska on a very windy and cold Friday afternoon on the soccer field. Madawaska erupted in the second half to secure the 3-0 victory.
During the first half, the Fort Fairfield Tigers and Madawaska Owls fought evenly for control of the ball. The Owls almost capitalized on a scoring opportunity, but it was saved by goalie Brett Senal.
Goalies from both squads held strong with four saves apiece in the first half, resulting in a scoreless game at the halftime break.
Shortly after the start of the second half, Madwaska netted a goal from captain Carsen Cyr with an assist from his teammate captain Brady Gagnon. Another goal followed halfway through from Madawaska’s Sam Dufresne, with the last goal scored again by Cyr.
It was Madawaksa’s third straight away game win and the Owls now boast an impressive 7-1 record. With the loss, the Tigers evened out their season and now stand at 3-3 with their match against Madawaska being their second home game loss.
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, Fort Fairfield rolled to a 5-2 victory over Katahdin of Stacyville. For the Tigers, Micah Daigle scored three goals; Cayden Ala had one goal and three assists; and Graedon King had a goal.
Tiger goalie Brett Senal had 12 saves on 21 shots.
For Katahdin, Kyle McNally and Grady Ritchie each had a goal. Goalie Kalan Mann had 13 saves on 25 shots.
