Porsche and I recently made that very familiar trip to Florenceville, New Brunswick to see a veterinarian. Sadly, Porsche did not make the trip back.
In less than a week, the fluid started building back up and the tumor she had grew in size. Her breathing was becoming labored and she was in pain. That was something we could not allow for our beautiful girl.
The decision had to be made and we had to open the window for her to make her journey to the Rainbow Bridge. This morning when I arrived at the Sanctuary I knew it was time. I let her out in the outdoor cat pen so she could bask in the sunshine one last time. I called the vet and we headed out.
Dr. Baker and Rylee sat on the floor with me as we said our goodbyes. I thank them for their kindness and gentleness as Porsche took her last breaths. It was peaceful and for that I am grateful.
Porsche called the Sanctuary home for 10 years. She was feral, but she was beautiful. I would look at her and be in awe at how beautiful she was. She was a very petite little girl and she was wild at heart. She would observe and always keep her distance, but that was OK. We accepted her on her terms, we respected her space and we loved her very much.
There will be an empty spot at the Sanctuary and in our hearts. We are honored that we got to be a part of her journey and we take comfort that she has crossed over the rainbow bridge and there will be no more pain.
Porsche was not just a feral cat, she was family. They all are. We do what we do because we care about each and everyone of them and we learn from each and everyone of them. We become emotionally invested and we cry for each and everyone of them. LIfe will continue and eventually when the tears stop we will smile and remember our beautiful girl Porsche. Fly high sweet girl you have earned your wings!
Thank you for your continued support and as always thank you for reading our column.
