PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Northern Maine Community College will host its first in-person open house since 2019 on Friday, Oct. 14.
The public is invited to tour the campus and participate in demonstrations highlighting the more than 30 programs offered at the college. Visitors can meet instructors, tour the training labs, and explore services available throughout campus. A complimentary meal will be available at the recently renovated Reed Dining Commons for both morning and afternoon visitors.
This year’s special guest is YouTube star Scott Wadsworth, “The Essential Craftsman,” who will give three live presentations. A master of many trades, Wadsworth will present on “The Value of Grit” at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 4 p.m. in the campus gymnasium. Each presentation will last approximately 45 minutes. Since high school students will visit primarily during the morning, community members are encouraged to attend the 4 p.m. presentation if possible.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at NMCC’s new Emergency Medical Services Simulation Lab at 2 p.m. The lab is located behind the Christie Complex. All community members are invited. The lab is one of the most advanced training centers in the state, drawing students to the program from throughout Maine and across the Canadian border to take advantage of the innovative equipment and learning environment.
Sarah Stackhouse, NMCC’s director of admissions and outreach, said, “We’ve planned this open house to help future college students of all ages experience our campus and build excitement for the opportunities that NMCC has to offer. There is no better way to find out if NMCC is right for you than to visit our programs and speak to students and faculty.”
