BANGOR, Maine — Three local youths earned berths in the Elks Soccer Shoot state championships after placing first at the northern district competition held in Bangor Sunday, Oct. 9.
Sadie Trams of Ashland took top honors in the girls under 12-year-old category, while William Browning of Fort Fairfield was first for under-12 boys and Lucy Cheney of Castle Hill took the title in the under-14 girls classification.
All three represented Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 and had advanced to the districts following their success at the lodge competition held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle Sept. 25.
Five other youths representing the lodge were runners-up at the recent district event. They were Aubrey Plant of Presque Isle (U8 girls), Wilson Clark of Mapleton (U8 boys), Jenna Strid of Woodland (U10 girls), Madden Hebert of Presque Isle (U10 boys) and Mason Pelletier of Easton (U14 boys).
Trams, Browning and Cheney will next compete in the state event, which will be held on Sunday, Oct. 16, also in Bangor beginning at 10 a.m.
