PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — It was a close game for the Presque Isle Wildcats and the Caribou Vikings boys soccer team on Thursday, Oct. 13, but the Wildcats managed to pull out a 2-1, double overtime victory.
In the first half, the Wildcats and Vikings fought hard over the soccer ball until Presque Isle senior Malachi Cummings scored the first goal with an assist from down the field from freshman goalie Michael Langley.
The Vikings tied the game at 1-1 with a goal from freshman Jude Shea.
Neither team was able to break the tie in the first overtime, sending the game to double overtime. In that extra period, Cummings gave the Wildcats the victory with a well-placed goal.
Viking sophomore goalie Logan White had 11 saves to Wildcat Langley’s 14 saves.
Presque Isle followed up with a 3-1 victory over Hermon on Saturday (details not submitted). The Wildcats end the regular season with a 7-6-1 record and are currently ranked fifth in the Class B North standings.
The Vikings followed up with a 4-2 loss to Ellsworth Saturday (details not submitted) and ended their season with a 4-10 record. Caribou is ranked eighth in Class B North.
Both the Presque Isle and Caribou boys squads will be involved in the upcoming postseason. Their opponents will not be finalized until the regular season comes to an end Tuesday, Oct. 18.
