BELFAST, Maine — It is on to the state championships for the Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics boys cross country team following a solid finish at Saturday’s Class C regional competition.
The Penguins of Limestone placed third in the boys competition with 102 points, earning the squad a shot in the state Cross Country Championships, to be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at Twin Brook in Cumberland.
Other boys squads qualifying for states were: George Stevens Academy, 60 points; Sumner, 82; Orono, 106; and Bucksport, 111. Washburn placed sixth with 123 points.
Individual results for Limestone/MSSM were: 7, Griffin Duigan, 18 minutes, 7.01 seconds; 13, Morris McCall, 18:45.06; 27, Jack Tetreault, 19:22.89; 36, Brian Evans, Limestone/MSSM, 20:13.71; 44, Ben Uhlenhaki, 20:31.51; 68, Samuel Griffin, Limestone/MSSM, 23:11.79; and 73, Makai Moody-Broen, 23:55.37.
Individual results for Washburn boys were: 11, Kaiden Carney, 18:43.13; 26, Roegan Carney, 19:17.30; 37, Braden Elliot, 20:13.77; 38, Mitchell Hewitt, 20:17.42; 43, Chris Tardie, 20:30.99; 45,Garrett Plourde, 20:48.40; and 70, Gage Espling, 23:25.18.
In the girls competition, Limestone/MSSM did not have enough runners to score as a team and Washburn placed 10th with 229 points. Neither group advanced to states.
