HOULTON, Maine – The Northern Maine Antique Tractor Club recently held a “plow day” to raise money for the Bridge to Hope cancer group.
The group was able to present a check for $450 to the cancer group, to help people in Aroostook County who are battling cancer.
Plow days are events that take place when a local farmer is willing to let the club plow under their fields after planting when it is the end of the season, according to Autumn LaPointe, a member of the club.
“They do this with antique tractors in the old two-, three- or four-bottom plows,” she explained. “(These tractors) are smaller, so it is much more time-consuming and slower than obviously the newer material.”
This year Corey Farms on the Bangor Road participated in the plow day.
The club also collected donations from a “tractor train” event held in downtown Houlton during the Harvest Festival. During the ride, which used an older-style tractor to pull smaller, child-size tractors, children and their parents were able to take a tour through downtown Houlton.
