PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A free Veterans’ Day supper for all military veterans, current military service personnel and their spouses will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, at the Presque Isle Elks Lodge.

“The Veterans’ Day dinner is held pursuant to the directive of the Elks Grand Exalted  Ruler. All Elks Lodges throughout this country are asked to hold special events to honor  our nation’s military Veterans. November is Elks Veterans Remembrance Month,” said Patricia Lovely, exalted ruler of the Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954.

A principal precept of the lodge is “As long as there are veterans,  the Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 will never forget them.”

The supper is open to the public. The lodge is located at 508 Main St. in Presque Isle. The menu will include a wide variety of recipes featuring moose meat, including marinated moose  steaks, moose chili, Lasagna with moose meat, American chop suey with moose  hamburger, and moose meatballs in a variety of flavors.

The Maine Wardens Service has provided the moose meat for this supper, as their own expression of gratitude to military veterans.

Other fare will also be offered, including chicken stew, homemade baked beans, hot rolls, seafood chowder, fresh biscuits and a variety of desserts, coffee, tea and soft  drinks.

The meal is free for all military veterans, active service members and their spouses.  A minimal fee of $5 per person will be charged for members of the public who wish to attend.

James “Sheldon” Wright, Dale Hudson and other veterans will share their musical talents at the special supper.

Veterans and all current military service personnel will be entered in a drawing for door prizes.

Transportation to the Elks Lodge for this event can be arranged by calling the Presque Isle Elks at 764-0985.
