Honor society members attend new conference

WASHBURN, Maine — Three of Washburn District High School’s National Honor Society officers recently attended the first ever National Honor Society Leadership Conference in Portland.

The event was held at the University of New England campus. Twenty-three out of 138 chapters from throughout the state attended the event.  

NHS Adviser Kelly Hemphill accompanied the group.

The day started with keynote speaker Ann Postlewaite of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, who discussed “The World of NHS:  Leadership, Service, Character, and Scholarship.” Later, the University of New England admissions team and Student Leadership Board discussed a variety of topics related to the college admissions process.  

The day ended with the sharing of fundraising and service project ideas from the chapters around the state.
