PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Perham artist Richard Clark will bring a collection of his works to the Aroostook Agency on Aging in January for a month-long exhibit. He will be in attendance and available to discuss his influences and methods during the Jan. 6 First Friday Art Walk from 5-8 p.m. in the Artists for Aging gallery.
A visual artist working in acrylic, graphite, and pastel media, Clark’s specialty is the natural landscape of his area of Northern Maine, particularly trees and their depths of shadow. He draws much of his inspiration from these surroundings which include the nearly 2,000-acre Salmon Lake Bog public conservation area that he and his late wife Susan helped establish in the early 1990s.
Some of Clark’s pencil drawings are of “the last snow of the season falling and melting” near his home and Woods Edge Gallery in Perham. Others are of northern white cedar swamps with their leaning trunks and tangle of limbs. “My carefully worked pencil drawings of this subject are considered by many to be my best work,” he said.
Clark will have an assortment of prints for sale during his show. Those exhibiting works as part of “Artists for Aging” have generously donated 20 percent of their sales to support programs and services offered by Aroostook Agency on Aging.
